Provenance Ex-Burrus Auction 1963 lot 315 – Rare in such fine fresh cut square condition and rare setting – 3rd Printing Head Die III [Earliest usage of this head die and yet considerable retouching for die type! Especially uncharacteristic definition upper chignon and horizontal parallel lines under chin on neck!! ] Frame Die I [Plating Jatia Stone K based on (7) small red circular flaw NW of S, small red flaw between I and upper left hatching – (8) Distinct red flaws each end of lower frame outer line – Wide spacing/setting watermark position 7-8 with standard centre sheet fold found on all wide setting sheets – Light neat PM types 1 (JC) sub-type small round dots - A very similar pair same positions 7-8 Jatia Stone K, also with notable chignon retouches (see illustration Plate IX - India's Bi-Coloured Four-Annas 1854 - A specialised Study of Third Printing D.
